I Don't Like Chocolate

Why wait until one specific day of the year to show how much you care for that special someone? This has basically turned into an obligation in this society: "Oh shoot, gotta go pick up a generic box of chocolates or else she'll kill me" or "Gah, forgot to get a cheesy tie for him!" (I don't like chocolate, so I don't like getting them, but it might be different for others)

Now, I'm not opposed to this whole deal, but it's ridiculous how much companies make from this. It's great that people are showing their appreciation for each other, but I saw Valentine's Day-related things go up in early JANUARY. Is that really necessary? And you know what? It's not just this holiday that guilt-trips you into getting a present for someone - Mother's Day and Father's Day are the same. It's that one day of the year when you feel the NEED to get them something. People should show their appreciation to their parents on a daily basis, and that doesn't necessarily mean buying them gifts. An expensive present isn't going to make up for you being a brat the other 364 days of the year.

Back to the topic, if you're single and okay with it like me, this day is just another normal day. If you're single but you don't want to be, just stay home and watch Disney movies or something. If you're happily "anchored" (Yes, my Facebook is set on pirate-speak), I hope this will be a good day for you.

Oh, I leave you with these V-day cards since they're hilariously nerdy and cheesy.

I agree. We should be showering our parters with love on a consistent basis and not only during Valentine's day. I don't like receiving chocolates because I don't eat them at all. I prefer more practical things. ;)

Anyway, while I was single, I always like to go shopping on that day. The stores tend to have some V-day discounts. :P

I kinda feel the same way about Christmas, too. So I don't really participate in these holidays... but at the end of the day, if its making someone happier, why not? At the same time, I question why spending $30 on flowers is needed to show someone you love them.

I still can't believe you don't like chocolate!

Your Facebook is in pirate speak? FOR REALZ??? No, really -- did you have to add an application or something? I want that in mine! :P

I like chocolate, but not in the OMG I NEEDZ IT!1111! kind of way in which ads depict women to be. Anyway, if I get a present on Valentine's I'm not going to turn it down (:P), but I'm also not going to pressure anyone into getting me anything either. Love should be a constant and not an event!

I'm single but I'm okay with what you've said.

I.. 50% like chocolate, 50% dislike it so if someone were to buy me a box of chocolate, thank you.

Those people who prepared for Valentine Day early in January.. sigh.. I don't think Valentine Day is the day for the people to show their love to the other. For me, I think Valentine Day is for the couples to spend their time with each others and those gifts are to be sold to the couples not the singles! :X

so my response to the title of this,
yeah i know... and i still think that's crazy despite the fact that i've grown up with a chocolate hating brother my whole life. i guess it's just that you always have a good amount of chocolate in your house. oh well it works well for me.

as for the rest of it:
i agree, not an enitrely new perspective on valentine's day, i guess it would be better to look at it with the idea that at least those who don't normally express their love make an effort at least once a year. though i agree that it shouldn't be a day forced upon us to waste money and that this should be expressed year round. though this year i have a particularly positive view on the holiday as my mom decided to make various cookies and valentine's day desserts, cause she's awesome. you find it wierd that apop loves this holiday for some reason, oh well more power to her.

    the valentine's cards,
you say nerdy and cheesy i say creepy and disturbing, just a little bit. oh well i spend a large portion of my time creeping so i guess it's cool

Something to say?
